This is the first in a new service of  Mountain Star Feng Shui.  Each month, I'll be bringing you Feng Shui tips that you can start using right away.  This month, we'll talk about directions -- as in N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, and NW -- and sleeping.   Did you know that there is a best direction for your bed?  Placing your bed in this direction can help you rest better and wake more refreshed.  This is because the qi that is within you is affected by the qi coming to you from different directions.  If your bed is placed incorrectly, and the qi coming to you is not supportive to you, your sleep may be disturbed.  It can also have an effect on how you feel overall. Determining your best directions begins with determining your personal trigram or ming gua.  Based on the year you were born, you are assigned a trigram and direction.

The best direction for sleeping for an 8-Gen is with the head of the bed against the Northeast wall.  If you are a gua 1 Kan, the best direction for you is with your headboard on the North wall.

In addition to direction, the another Feng Shui tip for your bed is that the head of the bed should be supported by a wall.  But what happens if you are a 3 Zhen with East as the best direction for sleeping and the walls of your house are on the NE-SE-SW-NW compass points?  -- you have no East wall.

Sleeping directions are part of what's called the East/West Theory.  This Feng Shui method identifies four auspicious and four inauspicious directions depending on whether your gua belongs to the East Group or the West Group.  In the situation where you have no wall to place your bed, there is a second, third, and fourth choice. There are personal gua calculators available on-line which will calculate your ming gua or you can send me an email me at MtnStarFS@aol.com including your birthdate (month, date, and year) and gender, and I'll send  your personal ming gua and identify the 4 choices for sleeping directions.

PS:  If you email me for your ming gua, be sure and include the month, day, and year of your birth and your gender.  All are needed to determine your ming gua.  Hope you have a wonderful month.  Remember that if you are using Xuan Kong -- of Flying Stars Feng Shui -- the 5-Yellow Sickness star is in the SE in October.  You may need to place metal in this area of your home.  But be sure to remove it in November when the 4 Star comes to the SE.

NEXT MONTH:  Where should you put those windchimes?
